Drivers Licences

The embassy does not issue Licence validation letters nor offer renewal of drivers licences services.

Applicants requiring confirmation letters are requested contact the Road Traffic management Corporation (RTMC) directly to request such letters and to include their RSA identity number and postal address where the confirmation letter will be mailed to, upon applying for a confirmation letter.

Questions regarding driving in SA with a foreign driver's licences

To drive in South Africa, foreigners must have a full license from their country of residence. Licences printed in English are valid, an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) must be obtained if the license is in any other language.

The embassy does not provide translation services nor confirmation of foreign drivers licences services. The public is advised to seek an independent sworn translator.
