Ambassador Tebogo Seokolo participated in the inauguration of the Nelson Mandela esplanade in Le Havre in the presence of Prime Minister and former Mayor of Le Havre, Edouard Philippe, on Saturday 28 September 2019.

The project supported by the local and regional authorities, had to be simple and elegant to illustrate the link between the harbour and the city”, the former mayor, at the origin of this new promenade area, said, adding “naming a place is to give it a soul. Naming it after a righteous and free man, who became an icon, is a perfect choice”.

For Ambassador Seokolo “paying tribute to Madiba was a way of reminding us that he remains an inestimable source of inspiration”. He highlighted that September was Heritage Month in South Africa.

The remarks were punctuated by songs of Johnny Clegg, recently deceased, interpreted by the Phaella choir.
